The Dameronia's Legacy All-Stars

If You Could See Me Now

Dameronias Legacy All Stars

Over the years there have been many 'tribute' bands celebrating the music of prominent jazz composers / musicians - Mingus, Ellington, and others. The Dameronia's Legacy All-Stars is an American-European Octet that features the music of pianist Tadd Dameron and If You Could See Me Now is on their latest album Live At Audi Forum Ingolstadt released in August. Tadd wrote the song in 1946 especially for Sarah Vaughan and it became one of her first signature songs. It was originally released by Sarah Vaughan on the Musicraft label with You're Not The Kind on the B side with Tadd Dameron as the musical Arranger and an interesting backing band - details here.

As the title says, the All-Stars album was recorded live at Audi Forum Ingolstadt in Germany on the 8th July this year. The band is an Octet led by drummer Bernd Reiter using original arrangements written originally for larger orchestras. Bernd says: "The general concept was to have an octet which provides many of the options of a real big band and at the same moment still leaves enough solo space for everybody. The recording was made towards the end of a two-week European tour, so the arrangements were completely in place and the perfect ground for extended and inventive soloing by all the band members.”

This track gives the space for baritone saxophonist Rik van den Bergh from the Netherlands to take solos. The rest of the players are Andrea Pozza (piano - Italy), Johannes Herrlich (trombone - Germany), Dick Oatts (alto saxophone - United States), Aldo Zunino (double bass - Italy), Jim Rotondi (trumpet - United States), Jon Boutellier (tenor saxophone - France) and Bernd Reiter (drums - Austria).
